Montserrat

We spent most of the day at this remarkable monastery/natural wonder/tourist attraction. The day consisted of a 1 1/2 hour train trip followed by a cable car up the mountain and later, an 820 foot funicular from there to a hiking trail which winds further up the mountain to the St Joan Chapel.
We enjoyed the cool mountain air, the people we met and walked with, and the attraction itself. A super day.

Monastery at 4500' has 30 resident Benedictine Monks and the oldest choir school in Europe with 50 boys living there.

Spanish cat hanging out at top of mountain

Funicular climbs 820' above monastery.

Two cable cars dangling on their way up to monastery. Felt like yellow sardine cans.

La Moreneta - main reason for many to come up. She is incased in glass except for the ball which pilgrims touch.

Beautiful bright autumn day
