Feeling quixotic, we're off in a week.

On June 28 of this year, Bill told me that he had booked return tickets for Madrid! We were having dinner looking out over Brentwood Bay and celebrating our fiftieth wedding anniversary.
And now, four busy months later, here we are. Five days to departure and time to start getting serious about preparing for a month in Spain. We have been watching the news and it now looks like Brexit won't affect us but the Catalan protests might.  We are also watching the weather in Madrid (28 degrees for the past few weeks has now dropped to the low teens).

The cool thing is that when we mention Spain to people who've been there, their eyes light up and they go into raptures. "Oh you'll love Barcelona!" "Be sure to spend lots of time in Madrid." "Oh the Prada!" "Cordoba is fabulous!" "We loved Rhonda!" "Be sure to spend time in Toledo!"....  Everyone has a favourite memory.
So our original idea of staying in only one or two places for a relaxing holiday has changed back to our preferred style of travel - we have the first and last nights booked.. along with one concert in Barcelona. With nothing else we are free to go where the spirit moves us. And we are not kidding ourselves - we'll try to see everything, get really really tired and love every minute!

  1. Have fun. No matter where you go in Spain, you will sites and scenes you will never forget. Don't want to set your it itinerary, but a walk around Madrid and a day at the Prado would be perfect. Burn viaje!

  4. I'm so excited to follow you through Spain. The coast was my favorite as was driving through the Pyrenees. But all places were fun unless my blood sugars got low! I know you'll have a wonderful time and, yes, you will be exhausted! Love, Jody

  5. What concert do you have booked? Hope your travels have been smooth so far...I think you are only 10 hours in - lol - probably not the most dramatic (hopefully!). Your grandbabies will miss you big time! Look forward to your first international post :) xox
