Azulejo

After our morning coffee we wandered the winding streets of our little resort town. The buildings are all white-washed to fight off the heat which we can only imagine. But quite a few are decorated with the Azulejo (tiles) Portugal is known for. These came originally from Spain but were seriously adopted by the Portuguese as a means of decorating the plain plastered walls.
While out wandering we came to a hidden cafe in one of the back streets and amazingly, after yesterday's experience, have signed up for another traditional dinner tonight. You have to order ahead so fresh food can be brought in. We are having a kind of stew with seafood (Yikes!) and chicken. The chef gave us her recommendation and we (well me anyway) are hopeful this will be a treat. Stay posted.

Some choose coloured decorations instead.
